Frequently Asked Questions

What is the age range of children you work with?

All ages! Babies through adolescence.

How do I know if pelvic floor therapy is right for my child?

Pelvic floor therapy may be the right fit for your child if they are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above or if you have any other concerns about their pelvic health. Additionally, if your child is 6+ years old and still having day and/or night time accidents, pelvic floor therapy may help. If you have any questions, schedule a free discovery call or e-mail us at hello@ownyourpelvichealth.com

What should we expect for our first visit

Our goal is to keep your child comfortable and relaxed. The beginning of the visit will consist of a conversation about why you are seeking out therapy, your family’s goals and expectations. The therapist will go over your intake paperwork and follow up with any questions we may have. We like get to know your child, as we know how important rapport is when working with children.

Next, we assess your child’s posture, breathing, major muscle groups, and daily movements through fun activities. We will provide general education on the function of the pelvic floor, if age appropriate. Together, we will determine if an external exam of your child’s pelvic floor is necessary. If we complete an external assessment, we always have a caregiver present, and we explain, step-by-step, what you should expect and provide visuals of the musculature we will be assessing. We never touch your child- only give occasional tactile cues with the end of a q-tip. We will ask for consent throughout each step of the process and you and your child have the right to change your mind at any time. After our thorough evaluation, we will explain our findings and collaborate to make the best plan of care possible.

How long do services normally last?

It depends on your child’s current symptoms and challenges! On average, most kids need at least 6-10 visits. However, we work hard to accommodate your family’s financial needs, schedule, and goals.

Where are you located?

We are based in Denver, Colorado. We’re a hybrid practice, which means we provide in-home, in-clinic and virtual services. Our pediatric clinic is located in Wheat Ridge at 4251 Kipling St. Suite 130, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. We serve the Denver and surrounding metro area. If you are outside our service area, we charge a travel fee. We also offer virtual coaching for those of you outside the state of Colorado.

Do I need a referral from my child's doctor to see you?

Colorado is a direct access state for occupational therapy, which means you DO NOT need a referral to receive our services. However, we are huge believers in a team approach to healthcare, and we highly encourage a referral before we work together. Additionally, most insurance companies require a physician referral for reimbursement. Check with your insurance company to be sure.

Do you take my insurance?

We are an out-of network-provider. We chose this route because it means we are not limited by the constraints of health insurance plans. We are able to take the time needed to help you reach your goals without the restrictions often imposed by health insurance. Insurance often dictates who we can see, when we can see them, how often we can see them, and what we can do during our sessions.

This means that you will actually have more time with your therapist at each session and you will need less sessions to see improvement.

By being out-of-network, we serve you- not your insurance company. We are able to provide a receipt or “superbill” that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If your health insurance plan offers out-of-network benefits, this may allow you to be reimbursed in part or full. Because we are an out-of-network-provider, we cannot work with individuals who have Medicare. We are happy to help you find a provider who can.

We also accept HSA and FSA. Are finances keeping you from scheduling your first visit? We don’t want the cost of services to be a barrier for anyone. Fill out THIS form if you want to learn more about our sliding scale.

How do I pay for services?

Payment is due at your first appointment and each appointment thereafter. We accept credit cards, HSA, FSA, cash, and checks. We offer package deals and provide a sliding scale as needed. For in-home visits, there may be an extra travel fee depending on your location. Reach out to hello@ownyourpelvichealth.com for further information.

What is your cancellation policy?

We request that you cancel or reschedule appointments 24 hours in advance. Otherwise, you will incur a cancellation fee at the cost of the session. We do understand emergencies happen, and we may make exceptions to this rule.

What if I have more questions?

We want to make this process as seamless as possible and are here to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to reach out at anytime at hello@ownyourpelvichealth.com or give us a call at (720) 509-9154 .
