Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if pelvic floor therapy is right for me?
We would argue EVERYONE could benefit from a seeing a pelvic floor therapist. We may be the right fit for you if you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above or if you are trying to conceive, want to prepare for childbirth, return to your normal activities after birth, and/or are looking to prevent future pelvic floor dysfunction.
What should I expect at my first visit
Our goal is to keep you comfortable and relaxed. The beginning of the visit will consist of a conversation about why you are seeking out therapy, your goals, and expectations. Your therapist will go over your intake paperwork and follow up with any questions we may have. We like get to know you, as we often find that the pelvic floor impacts much more of our clients’ daily lives than they realize.
Next, we assess your posture, breathing, major muscle groups, and daily movements. We help you understand the function of the pelvic floor and surrounding musculature. Together, we will determine if an internal exam of your pelvic floor is necessary. If we complete an internal assessment in-home, we encourage you to find a comfortable and private space in the house such as a bed, couch, or yoga mat. We will explain, step-by-step, what you should expect and provide visuals of the musculature we will be assessing. We will ask for consent each step of the process, and you have the right to change your mind at any time. After our thorough evaluation, we will explain our findings and collaborate to help you reach your goals.
Do you take my insurance?
We are an out-of network-provider. We chose this route because it means we are not limited by the constraints of health insurance plans. We are able to take the time needed to help you reach your goals without the restrictions often imposed by health insurance. Insurance often dictates who we can see, when we can see them, how often we can see them, and what we can do during our sessions.
This means that you will actually have more time with your therapist at each session and you will need less sessions to see improvement.
By being out-of-network, we serve you- not your insurance company. We are able to provide a receipt or “superbill” that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If your health insurance plan offers out-of-network benefits, this may allow you to be reimbursed in part or full. Because we are an out-of-network-provider, we cannot work with individuals who have Medicare. We are happy to help you find a provider who can.
We also accept HSA and FSA. Are finances keeping you from scheduling your first visit? We don’t want the cost of services to be a barrier for anyone. Fill out THIS form if you want to learn more about our sliding scale.
How do I pay for services?
Payment is due at your first appointment and each appointment there after. We accept credit cards, HSA, FSA, cash, and checks. We offer package deals and provide a sliding scale as needed. For in-home visits, there may be an extra travel fee depending on your location. Reach out to hello@ownyourpelvichealth.com for further information.
Where are you located?
We are based in Denver, Colorado. We’re a hybrid practice, which means we provide in-home, in-clinic and virtual services. Our clinic is located at 4337 Tennyson Street, Suite #105, Denver, CO 80212. We serve the Denver and surrounding metro area. If you are outside our service area, we charge a travel fee. We also offer virtual coaching for those of you outside the state of Colorado.
Can I make an appointment if I am not pregnant and/or have not had children?
Yes! While we focus most of our attention on expecting moms and women who have had children, we serve all people with vaginas. We can also work with you if it’s been YEARS since you’ve had children. Many women experience pelvic floor dysfunction during perimenopause and menopause.
Do I need a referral from my doctor to see you?
Colorado is a direct access state for occupational therapy, which means you DO NOT need a referral to receive our services. However, we are huge believers in a team approach to healthcare, and we highly encourage a referral before we work together. Additionally, most insurance companies require a physician referral for reimbursement along with your superbill. Check with your insurance company to be sure.
What is your cancellation policy?
We request that you cancel or reschedule appointments 24 hours in advance. Otherwise, you will incur a cancellation fee at the cost of the session. We do understand emergencies happen, and we may make exceptions to this rule.
